Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has been cast to play the leading role of Jesus in the already irreverent play Jesus Christ Superstar in 2025.
The fact that I am not surprised says a lot about today’s attention-demanding, morally bankrupt, and frankly uncreative Hollywood. The farther they get from the one true God the more fake, crude, and lifeless they become. When they deny God, they deny reality. They think they themselves can define such things as marriage, gender, and righteousness. They believe their little thoughts and ideas are big, bold, and beautiful, and, if there is a God, He should certainly agree with their wisdom.

Hypocrisy has become so rampant it’s foolish to even call them on it. They know it. Everyone else knows it. What’s the point? They cry crocodile tears over someone who is not gay playing a gay role but have no problem casting the most famous person who ever walked the earth as someone who is not a Jew and is the opposite gender. Nothing to worry about here. I’d like to see them cast Mohammad as a white teenage girl or Gandi as an overweight Australian.
She sings a song in Wicked which pinpoints the problem. Here are some of the lyrics from “Defying Gravity”:
I’m through accepting limits
‘Cuz someone says they’re so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I’ll never know!Unlimited
Together we’re unlimitedThere’s no fight we cannot win
Just you and I
Defying gravity
With you and I
Defying gravity
Tons of teenage girls (and unfortunately many more who should know better) applaud with bursting hearts, so enraptured by her bravery, fearlessness, courage, guts, daring, heroism. But they never stop to consider that you cannot defy gravity. Gravity will always bring you down because God has so constructed this world as to confine us to certain unbending, unforgiving, unbreakable rules. This is what the spirit of the age rebels against—God’s rules. God will judge even if you look Him right in the face and tell Him, “I’m through accepting limits.”
As Erivo dares to stand in the role of the Lord Jesus Christ, to speak words as if from His mouth, to parade His image in a corrupt, illegitimate, disgusting play-act, she (and all who join with her in this abomination) needs to understand she does this in the face of the Father of our Lord and in the face of Him who the Father has put on the ultimate throne, Him who reigns as King over all nations. God will not forgive this blasphemy unless there is real repentance. May God break the teeth of the wicked.
Psalm 58 (ESV)
1 Do you indeed decree what is right, you gods?
Do you judge the children of man uprightly?
2 No, in your hearts you devise wrongs;
your hands deal out violence on earth.
3 The wicked are estranged from the womb;
they go astray from birth, speaking lies.
4 They have venom like the venom of a serpent,
like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5 so that it does not hear the voice of charmers
or of the cunning enchanter.
6 O God, break the teeth in their mouths;
tear out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
7 Let them vanish like water that runs away;
when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted.
8 Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime,
like the stillborn child who never sees the sun.
9 Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns,
whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!
10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance;
he will bathe his feet in the blood of the wicked.
11 Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
surely there is a God who judges on earth.”
